THE BEST FOOTBALL ALTERNATIVE FOR ALL!
Want to know the best way to get your kids moving during your football unit?
FastBreak Football is your answer!
This game was founded and created by some amazing people who are local to my area (as local as you can get-one of them actually lives down the street from me!).
I recommend this game for 3rd grade and up, but don’t worry, I’ve included a modification below that works great for 2nd grade as well.
FastBreak Football uses a “can” as both the end zone and field goal. The game is played to 21 points, which gives so many more players the opportunity to score. Here are the Official FastBreak Football Gameplay Rules.
A total game-changer activity that can be played in as little as 20 yards of space, gives students a clear target, motivates them to pass and involve others, and seamlessly adapts for students who use wheelchairs or walkers. Their mission says it best: “Football anywhere. For everyone.”
Our kids have even used this as a fantastic recess alternative. This game curbs fighting, tackling, and arguing, and they love it!

MODIFICATION GAME:
STOPPERS AND GOERS
SETUP:
Up to four games can be played at the same time in a full gym space.
Place a FastBreak Football “can” on each end of the “field.”
Group students 2–3 per line behind each cone.
GOERS: Offensive players-Students who are lined up behind the GREEN cones.
STOPPERS: Defensive players-Students who are lined up behind the RED cones.
QUARTERBACKS: Offensive players- Students that MUST STAY BEHIND THE YELLOW CONE attempting to throw and complete a pass to “GOERS.” (5 seconds to make the pass)
The Quarterback looks down both lines to make sure everyone is ready.
When the Quarterback says “Hike!”, the first students in each line run out and perform their jobs.
SCORING FOR GOERS:
DUNKDOWN: Getting the ball into the can = 7 points for the group
FIELD GOAL: Hitting the side of the can = 3 points for the group
If ball is dropped, caught or knocked down by the STOPPERS, EVERYONE goes back to the end of the line and no points are scored.
The next group of students then takes their turn.
After a few minutes, rotate the entire class to a new color cone.
Have students turn and talk about their “new jobs” and continue to play.
Once the games get started-they practically run themselves!
Keep on,
Katie
